John Francis Kelleher Obituary
During his 84-year journey, John, known to most as Jack, lived in New York City (31 years), suburban Chicago (27 years) and for the past 26 years, in Bakersfield.
He loved life, his family and many friends. A career salesman, he worked from his early teens until near the end of his life. He enjoyed sports and over the years, pursued his passion for golf. Jack was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and University of Notre Dame football team, and in recent years, slowly embraced his adopted hometown team, the L.A. Dodgers.
His "happy place" was being at home, with his family and his beloved dog(s). He enjoyed relaxing outside, showing off his barbeque skills or just hanging out and watching television.
Jack took up the guitar at an early age, and at countless family/neighborhood gatherings, he inevitably ended many an evening as the party's spontaneous entertainment.
A second generation Irish-American, Jack was a veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of St. John's University in New York City.
Jackâ€"a.k.a. Dad or Grandpa Kâ€"was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joan. He was the loving father of four children: daughter Irene (Boris) and husband, Gerry of Madison, WI; son Jack and wife Debbie, of West Dundee, IL, daughter Jo-Ann (Standridge) and husband, Greg, of Palatine, IL; and daughter Nora (Kieffer) and husband, Andy, of Lake Zurich, IL.
His legacy also includes 10 loving grandchildren: Erin, Anna, Michael, Sean, Jackie, Brendan, Colleen, Brian, Joe and Conor; as well as one great-grandchild: Kaia.
His life will be celebrated with a private service on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in Bakersfield. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Joan, at St. Michael's Cemetery in Palatine, IL.
