John Harvey Hansen August 3, 1918 - September 2, 2012 John Harvey Hansen was born in Salina, Kansas, on August 3, 1918 and passed away in Bakersfield, California on September 2, 2012. John, known as Harvey growing up, was eighth of nine children, is survived by his brother Allen Hansen. John was a veteran of World War II having enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps where he was stationed in England, later in Germany. He was smitten by a young Scottish Lassie at a dance in Edinburgh, Scotland, and soon married the love of his life, Margaret. After the war he located his family in Bakersfield where he worked as an accountant at Atlantic Richfield, Reserve Oil & Gas, owned Dairy Queen at Chester & 7th, and later was Safety Supervisor at San Joaquin Oil Refinery until he retired. He and his wife were actively involved in the First Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield and made many wonderful, lifelong friends in the Clipper Club and Chow Clubs. Both John and Margaret were founding members in the local Scottish Society which he was Clan Chieftain. He enjoyed reading all sorts of books and especially his Bible. John was an avid story teller and loved to talk about his adventures from childhood to WWII, and the joys of his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He leaves behind: son, John Hansen and wife, Pamela; daughter, Patricia Millhouse and husband, David; son, Donald Hansen and wife, Terry; his seven grandchildren: Christina, Cauleen, Katharine, John, Lindsey, Eric, Erica; along with four great- grandchildren. He knew Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and is at rest and peace with Him. Margaret preceded him in death having been married for 51 years. He will be missed greatly by his adoring family and friends. Viewing will be on Thursday, September 6th, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary with services to be held there on Friday, September 7th at 10:00 am.
