Military graveside services will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery on June 3, 2016, at 10:00 AM. for John R. "Jack" Doty who passed away peacefully on May 19, 2016 at his home in Pismo Beach, California.
Born in Delano, California on July 7, 1924, Jack received his elementary and high school education in Delano schools. After 3 years of active duty in the US Army during World War II with duty in the European Theater, Jack attended the University of Southern California, receiving his degree in Accounting in 1951. He loved being a Trojan!
Jack was a partner in a Delano public accounting firm for 10 years before moving his young family to Bakersfield to join the Kern County Auditor's Staff. He was appointed Assistant County Treasurer in 1965 and was elected County Treasurer & Tax Collector in June of 1970 where he served until his retirement in January of 1987.
Jack loved to play bridge with the "Brown Baggers", poker with the "Big Dogs", working crossword puzzles, and in earlier times he enjoyed square dancing and traveling with his loving wife, Lillian.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian, daughter, Melanie (Maury Cohen) of Sebastopol, grandson Evan Peterson of Santa Cruz, son Rob (Teri) of Grover Beach and granddaughters Lauren Blattler (James) of Arroyo Grande, and Megan DeLay (Thomas) of Monterey, sister-in-law Armeda Murray (Russ) of Colorado and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Foster and Helen Doty, two sisters, Marion Fontana and Betty Zaninovich, and a brother, Bob Doty.
Jack was a wonderful husband, Dad, Gramps and friend and will be so greatly missed by his family and all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Memorial gifts may be made in Jack's name to Wilshire Hospice of San Luis Obispo. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff members of Wilshire Hospice, San Luis Obispo and Family Home Care, Arroyo Grande.
