Johnny Ralph Pounds Obituary
Johnny Ralph Pounds, 80, of Bakersfield, CA, died on Sunday, May 30, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Ashley County
(Arkansas) on January 7, 1935, to John E. and Virginia Golden Pounds.
He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1953. He worked for and
retired from Chevron Oil Company in Bakersfield.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Pounds; two daughters, Julie Suorez (Steve) and Deann Frey (Gregg); three grandchildren, Thor Russell, Luke Russell and Christy Wensley; a brother, E. Fay Pounds of Hamburg, Arkansas; two sisters, Gwen Fischer of Hamburg and Frances Gosnell of Garland, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews. Granddaughter Christy said about her
grandpa, "Best grandfather ever. Diehard 49ers fan, animal lover, and
champion of independent, outspoken women. Johnny Ralph Pounds, you are
loved and you are missed." He loved his family fiercely. And he loved
his friends at the Knotty Pine Cafe in Bakersfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Yvette Wood; a
brother, Jack H. Pounds; and a sister, Betty S. Pounds Chapman.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
