Jon Howerton Obituary
Jon Howerton passed away Friday April 18, 2014 in Bakersfield, CA. Jon was born on August 13, 1939 in Booneville, Missouri.
He spent most of his life in the San Francisco area where he attended high school before serving his country in the United States Army in 1963. After returning to San Francisco he began working in the ship yards, advancing over the years to oversee Navy Contracts. In 1986 Jon moved to Virginia to continue work with the Navy, eventually becoming a truck driver transporting cranes. He moved to Bakersfield in 2000 to be closer to his family, especially his daughter Kelly. He worked for Asbury Transportation as a truck driver for 12 years and for a short time with his good friend Ed Slater. Reuniting with his brother Gary and sister-in-law Kathy was a highlight in Jon's life. He looked forward to the time they spent together getting reacquainted and visiting them in Nevada. Jon enjoyed his social life in Bakersfield, frequenting Luigi's, Pyrenees, Ethel's, VIP, Lone Oak and in recent years JM's cafe where he enjoyed breakfast on Saturdays. Jon was never shy to express his opinion and loved to reminisce about his days as a pilot and his fast paced life in San Francisco.
Jon is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Kathy Howerton, brother, Larry Howerton, daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Richard Eoff, granddaughter Emerson Eoff and his four legged granddog, "Norman".
His family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Optimal Hospice for the loving care of Jon and his family.
A graveside will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on May 7, 2014 at 10:45 am.
