Joe passed away peacefully at his home in Bakersfield, California with loved ones at his side. November 9, 2015. He was born and raised in San Diego, California, December 14, 1954.
Graduating from Samuel F.B. Morse High School, class of 1973. Joe was active in varsity football and competed in judo with his cousins.
Joe honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1973-1981, where he was Honorably Discharged as a sergeant. Joe served both overseas in Europe, The Continental United States and Hawaii. He qualified as a expert with the M-16A1 rifle. In Germany, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service as Crypto Material Specialist while assigned to the 42nd Artillery Detachment from 1979-1981.
Earlier years Joe traveled often. He was an avid fisherman and won awards from San Diego East County Bass Masters. Moving to Bakersfield in 2000, Joe missed the San Diego lifestyle. A big Charger and Padre fan, he visited and attended games as often as he could. He had many interests but mostly enjoyed sports- football and Nascar, the company of friends, old & new and loved his Chihuahuas. Joe met his wife Jan in August of 2006, he was an appreciative and loving husband. In 2007, he retired with a career of 30 years of Government service.
Joe put family first, he looked for ways to make you laugh. His clever wit and charming smile will always be missed. Joe was a soft-spoken, gentle man who loved his family and friends. He leaves many cherished memories.

Jose O. Valdez was laid to rest with military honors on November 25, 2015 at Miramar National Cemetery.
