Joy Eyraud 1935 - 2012 Joy was born July 6, 1935 in El Reno, Oklahoma to George and Ann Whitten Decker, joining her older sister Georgia and brother Keith. The next year the family moved to California and settled into the Panama area. Due to their mother's illness Joy and her siblings lived with various relatives. This unfortunate circumstance afforded them the opportunity to forge close everlasting relationships with their extended family. Joy attended Old River and Panama schools. Upon their mother's recovery and return they rejoined her and her husband Harold Lorshbough, and another sister, Amnie, arriving in 1948. Joy graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1953 On April 4, 1954 Joy married Jerold Eyraud and began their family of four children, Jerold Jr, Barney, Elizabeth and Ronald. Joy worked for the Panama Union School District and retired after 28 years having worked as a school librarian at Panama, Van Horn, Thompson and Tevis Jr. High. Summer vacations were spent camping and boating, and after their children had grown Joy and Jerold enjoyed traveling the western U.S. by motorcycle with special friends. Joy enjoyed the desert scenery, gold panning, was a excellent storyteller and was never without a book to read. Joy cherished her family and was forever the supporter of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joy was a room mother, PTA member, 4-H leader, and could always be counted on attending birthday parties, baseball games, dance recitals and junior livestock shows at the Kern County Fair. Predeceasing Joy are her parents, Ann and Harold Lorshbough, and sisters Georgia Pesante and Amnie Ewing. Joy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jerold; their children Jerry and Denise Eyraud, Barney and Lisa Eyraud, Elizabeth and Tom Masengale, and Ron Eyraud. Her grandchildren, Keith Brown, Emilia and Eddie Spells, Jacob and Jenna Eyraud, Erin Eyraud, Jeff Eyraud, Kevin Eyraud, Justin Eyraud, Jane Masengale, Hannah Eyraud, and Ann Masengale. Her Great-grandchildren, Joseph Brown, Nicholette and Lily Spells, and Bristol and Hadleigh Joy Eyraud. Also her beloved brother, Keith and Nadine Decker and her sister-in-law, Natalie and Jack Snell. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 21st from 4pm to 7pm, at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave with Funeral Services on Wednesday, August 22nd at 10am at Daybreak Baptist Church, 5446 Taft Hwy. Burial service will follow at 1:15pm at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd. www.bakersfield.com/obits
