Memorial service: Friday, August 26th, 9:00 a.m. St. Francis of Assisi Church 900 H Street, Bakersfield, CA
Born Judith Dee Freese to Charles William and Vivienne Freese in Spokane, WA, on Feb. 6, 1940.
Our beloved mother, Judith Dee Mullhofer, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 76. She was a charming, kind woman who would always greet you with a compliment and a smile that could light up a room.
In 1947, her family moved to Bakersfield, California. Judi attended Panama Elementary School, Golden State Jr. High, and graduated from B.H.S., forever a proud Driller. She later attended Bakersfield College and in 1960 began her career working in the business office at Pacific Bell. She continued to work at Pac Bell for 25 years. Judi married Gary Mathew Mullhofer, Dec. 16, 1961.
Throughout her life, Judi was an avid volunteer for many Bakersfield charities. She was an active member of Ayudantes and The Assistance League. She donated numerous hours to the Bargain Box and The United Way. However, the charity that filled her heart was The Guild House of Bakersfield.
Her love for food and entertaining drove her to enlist as a volunteer cook. Judi enjoyed 21 years as a member of the Guild House Sisterhood. While there, she filled many positions, including Head Cook, Special Events Coordinator, and served on the Board of Directors. Judi made many lifelong friends through her involvement with The Guild House. It was an activity that was very dear to her heart.
Judi's most recent hobby was photography. She was one of the co-founders of The Bakersfield Camera Club and enjoyed entering her photographs in the local competitions. Judi also enjoyed gardening, playing Bunko with friends at the Greens, traveling with family, and hosting holiday gatherings. However, what truly brought Judi the most joy and sense of accomplishment were her children and grandchildren.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vivienne Freese; infant daughter, Mary Alice; and former husband of 36 years, Gary Mullhofer. She is survived by her daughter, Dinah Mettler (Jeffrey); son, Matthew Mullhofer (Carolyn); grandchildren, Ashley and Michael Mettler, Nicholas and Zachary Mullhofer; sister, Holly Adame (Daniel); sisters-in-law; Gaye Siemon and Kathleen Mullhofer; Aunt Nancy Duggan; and her dear friend Herb Spencer.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Bakersfield on Friday, Aug. 26, at 9:00 a.m. Casket Bearers will be Jeffrey Mettler, Michael Mettler, Nicholas Mullhofer, Zachary Mullhofer, Jeffery Mullhofer, and Brian Mullhofer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Guild House of Bakersfield in memory of Judi Mullhofer. The Guild House, 1905 18th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301.
