Judy went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2016, while lovingly surrounded by her family. Judy's endless faith in God gave her the strength she needed to carry her through.
She was graceful and beautiful, both inside and out.
Judy was born in Anderson, South Carolina on December 6, 1950 and moved with her family to Bakersfield in June of 1959. She graduated from East High School in 1968, and attended both Bakersfield College and business college. She had a successful career in the banking and title industries, however, the role held dearest to her heart was being a wife, mother, and "E-Maw" (grandma). Judy cherished her 44 year marriage to the love of her life, Phillip Thomas, devoted herself to raising her two daughters, and enjoyed every moment she spent with her grandbabies.
Judy was amazingly generous and dedicated to her family, and family is what she treasured most. She seemed to effortlessly make everyone around her feel important and loved. She put endless thought into everything she did, always putting others before herself. Judy was so loved by so many. The void left by her untimely departure can only be soothed by knowing she is watching over us. We will forever hold her close in all of our hearts.
Judy was preceded in death by her father, Richard Gilbert. She is survived by her husband Phillip Thomas; daughter Rebecca Thomas, son-in-law David Keyes and granddaughter Nolan Keyes; daughter Erin Thomas-Slayden, son-in-law Aron Slayden and grandchildren Ryann, Parker, Peyton, and Arie Slayden; mother Oleta Gilbert; sister Linda Lewis and husband Jerry; brother Lynn Gilbert and wife Debbie; sister Phyllis Jared and husband Phillip; mother-in-law Inez Beeman; sister-in-law Suzan Haenelt and husband Marty; brother-in-law Michael Beeman and wife Shawn; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A public memorial service will be held at Greenlawn SW on Panama Lane on Monday March 14, 2016 at 10:00 am, followed by a private burial at Bakersfield National Veterans Cemetery.
