JULIAN "DALE" GARCIA
11/1/50 - 7/7/18

It is with great sadness that the family of Julian "Dale" Garcia announces his passing after a brief illness, at the age of 67 years. A native of Bakersfield, he was preceded in death by his father Nicanor Garcia, Sr., mother Julia Wood Garcia, and siblings; Nicanor Jr. Garcia, Larry Garcia, Ronald Garcia, and Joyce Garcia. Dale will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Maria Garcia, of 29 years and his children; Carrie Garcia-Halloway, Brian Garcia, Michael Garcia, Angelina Gonzales, James Gonzales, Salvador Gonzales, Maxine Rodriguez, Leslie Hernandez, Roman Gonzales and Nicholas Hernandez; his sisters Joan Henderson, Peggy Garcia, and Linda Atkinson Garcia; brothers Kenneth Garcia and Henry Garcia and Dale's beloved dog Lucky. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Miguel, Jeremiah, Robert, Donovan, Brian, Analeah, Mary-Jane, Carter, Ellis, Lane, Daniel, Samuel, Timothy, CJ, Lulu, Andrew, Adrian, Brianna, Sara, Taylor, Todd, and Sirena; great-grandchildren Andrew Jr., Litonya, Raine, Christian, Troy, Abryna, Kinley and several nephews, nieces and friends.

Dale graduated from East Bakersfield High School. He proudly served the USA during his military commitment in Vietnam. He devoted many years working as a surgery tech and many more as a warehouse foreman before he retired. Dale found it an honor to serve others and also looked forward to ushering at church for many years. Dale was a people person who was known for his good sense of humor. He loved to joke with others and always had a good story to tell. Dale was a master at BBQing and was always ready for his next casino trip. What Dale valued most, was spending time with family, eating at restaurants, and spending time with his fellow veterans. He was very proud to go on the honor flight to Washington DC where he met many new friends. Everyone knows how much Dale valued the annual camping trip to Morro Bay with family and friends...where he always shared his love for a good game of UNO. Believe it or not, Dale did not have a favorite football team; instead, he always cheered for the "underdogs" to rile others up. One of our favorite memories of Dale is recalling his automatic response each time his family or friends went on a trip/event when he could be counted on saying, "I wear an extra-large." We appreciate the manner by which Dale modeled the importance to love unconditionally. Despite his recent illness, Dale kept a kind heart, had a funny sense of humor, and now even more...his grandchildren consider him, "one of God's greatest soldiers." His strength, faith, and perseverance remained strong and were evident by family and friends. He will be greatly missed!

Funeral services celebrating Dale's life will be held on Monday, July 16th with visitation starting at 5:30 p.m. followed by services beginning 6:30 p.m., at Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles Street, Bakersfield, CA. Interment services will be held on Tuesday, July 17th promptly at 10:00 a.m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, CA 93203.
