Kathleen Mary Reed Obituary
Kathleen Mary Reed or Kathy or Kay, as she was known to her family and friends passed on 02/23/14 surrounded by family and friends. Kathleen born during the depression years in Montreal Quebec, Canada was one of eight children. Kathy spent her life in the food service business, starting as a waitress when she was 14. During WWII she joined the Women's Auxiliary Corps Of the Canadian armed forces and served for two years until the end of the war. Known for strong work ethic and independence she returned to the restaurant industry where she worked for the rest of her life until she retired at 70 years old from the Prestigious Montecito Country Club in Santa Barbara Ca. She had started as a waitress and worked herself up to the the food and services director. In charge of large wedding receptions, she was highly sought after because of her organizational skills and attention to perfection. Kathy moved from Santa Barbara to Bakersfield to be closer to her grand kids whom she adored and spent the last 17 years helping to raise and care for them. Kathy was quite the character, never knowing what might come out of her mouth. Although 87 years young, she was very progressive in her thinking and would at times put people on their heels after a conversation. Always loving, Always caring, Kathy loved life and people and had a heart of gold. Kathy is survived by a brother and sister, sons Brian and Mike and five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends in the near future.
