Kathryn Marie Allen Obituary
Kathryn (Kathie) Marie Allen was born on March 1, 1951 in Lynwood, California. Her family moved to Bakersfield where Kathie grew up helping her parents operate Mt. Vernon Florist. While helping with the family flower shop, she obtained her Associate of Arts Degree at Bakersfield College. After graduating, Kathie began her career as a dental assistant. Throughout her life, she loved horses and was an exceptional and naturally gifted horsewoman.
In 1969, she met the love of her life, Dee Allen, and was married on January 23, 1971. From the time she laid eyes on her soul mate, Dee, they were inseparable, and possessed a love and dedication to one another that exemplified a Godly marriage. The love she and Dee shared throughout their marriage was truly magnetic. Their respect and admiration radiated throughout each embrace, conversation, and through the simple glances between one another. Their love was personified by building and growing the success of Bakersfield Quality Distribution Center, where they worked together for over 22 years.
The love for Jesus, her husband, family, and those in need was Kathie's main priority in life. She lived her life with a selflessness and desire to serve others before herself. Her unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior was demonstrated through her prayer life and daily walk with Christ. She was a true prayer warrior, and would pray for those in need without ceasing. Kathie was the most kind, gracious, and loving person who exuded a bold, but quiet spirit that was devoted to serving her Savior, husband, family, and friends. Her true happiness and heart was being with her husband, her daughters, grandchildren, and her best friends, Tanya and Mike. There was never a place that Kathie went that she did not make friends and share her faith with those whom surrounded her. Kathie's smile, laugh, and energy would light up the room and every golf course she played. She truly enjoyed the game of golf and was an exceptional golfer with a hole-in-one to her credit. Some of her happiest experiences golfing was with her husband.
Kathie leaves the legacy of a Christian example whom epitomizes a Godly walk and devotion to her Savior. She was an authentic, Godly example to those whom were blessed to be a part of her life. Kathie went to be with the Lord on December, 7, 2015 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She never allowed cancer to define her, but used her illness to witness, encourage, and inspire others. Kathie is preceded in death by her father and mother, Jack and Jeanette Whitaker, and her brother Michael Whitaker. Kathie will be greatly missed and forever loved by her husband Dee, daughters and son-in-laws: Lisa and Chris Drewry; Lindsey and Ben Sherley, and grandchildren: Kala, Callie, Gracie Hill; Kaden and Peyton Sherley; her sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Homer Ramsey; her brother and sister-in-law, Garry and Beverly Whitaker; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone that prayed for Kathie, and for the compassionate and loving doctors and nurses who cared for her throughout her battle with cancer. Our family is praying for a special blessing for those who loved and prayed for Kathie.
The family will be honoring Kathie with a private family memorial. In lieu of flowers, please honor Kathie by donating to Teen Challenge, 301 E Roberts Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93308.
