Kenneth Holland Obituary

Kenneth A. Holland May 16, 1947 - September 16, 2010 Kenneth A. Holland, a partner at the law firm of Klein, DeNatale, Goldner, Cooper, Rosenlieb & Kimball, LLP, died Sept. 16 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a courageous battle with a cancer-related illness. Holland joined KDG in 2000 as a partner. Immediately prior to joining the firm, he was a partner with local attorney Ken Byrum at Byrum Holland for 10 years. He was a partner at Musick, Peeler & Garrett, LLP in Los Angeles from 1976 to 1989 and was an Honors Program Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, Appellate Section in Washington DC from 1974 to 1976. Holland also served as law clerk to the Honorable John F. Killkenny, Senior Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Holland, an AV-rated attorney, mentored many local lawyers over the years and could always be counted on to cut through layers of difficult facts and legal issues to bring matters to the best possible results for his clients. He was an icon in the Kern County legal community and an active member of the Kern County Bar Association for 20 years. A life-long supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, Holland was an Eagle Scout, as well as a Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, the national honors society of the Boy Scouts. Holland received a Bachelor of Arts degree, Cum Laude, from UCLA in 1969, as well as a certificate of completion from UCLA's Graduate School of Education in 1970. He received his J.D. in 1973 from the University of Notre Dame and was admitted that year to the State Bar of California. He was also admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1981. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy; wife, Barbara; and daughter, Katherine. Services will be held on Friday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m., at the Mennonite Brethren Church, 400 Kern Street, in Shafter. www.bakersfield.com/obits
