Kenneth G. Johnston November 16, 1931 - November 23, 2013 Born Nov. 16, 1931, Kankakee, IL to Melvin and Lucille Johnston, Ken graduated from Momence High School in 1949 and held an AA from Kankakee Community College. Ken served two years in the US Army in Germany. Ken worked 17 years at Armstrong in Kankakee, followed by a career in sales, primarily welding supplies. Prior to retirement Ken ran his own handy-man business. He married A. Darlene Corn on Dec. 19, 1954. They lived in Aroma Park, then Peotone, and in 1989 moved to California. Ken volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader and was always active in his church. He served the Aroma Park Methodist Church in music and many leadership positions, making similar contributions to the Ming Avenue and Valley Christian Churches in Bakersfield. Ken's final membership was at Mill Creek Christian Church. Ken was noted for his big bass voice that enriched choirs, as well as The Crazy Horse Bunch band which entertained crowds throughout the Kankakee area. Ken is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Bakersfield; children Susan (Ruben) Ruiz of Easton, CA, Sharon (Tony) Ballesteros of Sacramento, CA, and Anna (Scott) White of Mandeville, LA; grandchildren Joseph (Vicky), Amanda (Andrew), Johnathon, Matthew (Haley), Alexis, and Kate; five great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Judith) Johnston; many beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. Visitation will take place at 4:30 PM, followed by Memorial Service at 5 PM, Saturday, Dec 7 at the Mission Family Mortuary in Bakersfield. Reception following at Mill Creek Christian Church. Internment and graveside service will be at Kankakee Memorial Gardens in Illinois.
