Kenneth Pitchford was born and raised in Mountain Home, Arkansas. After graduating from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, he served for 22 years as a meteorologist with the Air Force, and earned his M.S. from New York University.
Ken met his wife Dreda during a tour in England, and they were married in 1954. Most of his career was spent in the U.S. with one other tour to England in the 1960s. He was especially proud of working with Mission Control for the first moon landing in 1969. Ken retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Col. in 1972 and then worked several years in industry before retiring and moving back to Arkansas. In 2002 he and his wife moved to Bakersfield. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, three daughters, Lynne Eid (Ron), Laura Lester (Wes), and Leslie Shults (Glen), ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on Friday, August 7th at 9:15AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church Building Fund, 5100 California Ave, Suite 108, Bakersfield 93309, or to the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County, 5500 Olive Dr. Building 1, Bakersfield, 93308.
