Larry Glen Wiggins Obituary
Larry died April 13, 2014 peacefully at home in the care of his loving family.
Funeral services will be graveside at Bakersfield National Cemetery at 10:45 am April 18th, 2014. Pastor Roger Spradlin from Valley Baptist Church will officiate.
Larry was born October 22, 1946 to Carol and Glen Wiggins, here in Bakersfield. He was raised with his brother Randy, attending public schools, church, boy scouts, and, of course, family reunions. Love of God, family and country was instilled early, and continued to be his passion through life. While attending Bakersfield College he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard ship during the Vietnam era. Honorably discharged to return to his education in 1971, he met and married his wife, Betty Stanley. Together, they attended B.C. until his graduation with AA in Architecture, and transfer to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he graduated with BS in Architecture in 1976. Returning to Bakersfield with his wife, Betty, son Jeremy and daughter Amy, he apprenticed in several local Architectural firms, setting deep roots for our family in this community. Larry was licensed in 1981, and enjoyed his career, actively participating in AIAGE. Due to complications from Metastatic Melanoma, he retired in July 2013, from Ordiz-Melby Architects. He always enjoyed camping, hiking, and had a love for the water and sailing. Larry's natural artistic gift for drawing and painting was joyfully shared with family and friends, and will be a precious remembrance. Larry is known for his strong work ethic, kindness and integrity. His love for God reflected in his service as a deacon, and Sunday school and discipleship teacher at Valley Baptist Church. Larry was always ready to give an answer for the hope we have in Christ Jesus. His children enjoyed a very close, wonderful relationship with their Dad. His love for family is visible in the hearts of surviving family members who will truly and deeply miss him. And, his love for his country runs deep as those whose service sacrificed life for others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Betty, son Jeremy (Kira) Wiggins, daughter Amy (Brett) Shepard, grandchildren, Ema Gutcher, Leslie Shepard, and Bode Shepard. Also surviving him is brother, Randy (Sheryl) Wiggins, their children, Stacy and Nathan, and Jude. He will be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and numerous loving cousins.
Larry was well-loved because he loved well.
