Larry Pearson Obituary
Larry Alonso Pearson was born November 19, 1949. He is preceded in death by his mother, Laura Pearson. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Patty and his four children: Brooks (Erica), Chad Pearson, Mitchell (Teresa) Priest and Jody (Mark) Bolin. Brother: Othel, Jr. (Marcia) Pearson; Sisters: Helen (Louie) Souza, Phyllis (George) Tiner and Laurie (Edmund) Rodriguez.
Larry attended Wasco schools his entire life and graduated from Wasco High School in 1967. He was an outstanding athlete and made many friendships that would last a lifetime. His experiences as a student and athlete must have made quite an impression on him because he always knew he would teach and coach as an adult.
Larry attended Porterville College. He was a member of the first graduating class at Cal State Bakersfield in 1972. He began teaching in 1973 and started his teaching career at Wasco High in 1975. He taught, coached and mentored thousands of WHS students for over 35 years. He coached girls' softball, wrestling, baseball and football. There were few his equal when it came to motivating an athlete or a student.
Larry would agree that his greatest achievement was his family. He loved his family beyond measure and it was evident in everything he did. He was Papa Bear to children... all children. He loved children and enjoyed being around them. His grandchildren, nieces and nephews found shelter in those giant hugs he loved to dispense. He loved sharing stories and had the ability to make everyone feel special.
His great abiding love, besides family, was a connection to the mountains. He loved traveling the trails for secret fishing holes, rock hunting for Patty, finding wood for his carving projects, hunting or just enjoying the peace he found there. He shared his love for the outdoors with all who wanted to join him. He was also the King of Yard Sales. If you mentioned you were thinking of buying something, you would probably hear from him that he had found just what you needed and would then deliver it to you. Larry came back to the Lord in 1993. He spent the last twenty years worshiping at Westside Church in Wasco. Around this time, he collected a new family. This was his Church family and they soon learned what a blessing it was to be in his family circle. We know that he closed his eyes and opened them into the Lord's presence. We rejoice but we would sure like to have had more years with this remarkable man. Our thoughts turn to his wife, Patty, with whom he shared over 45 years of marriage. They married young and were a solid team, and their love for each other was obvious to all. A great man ... gone too soon.
