Leo Harrison Ruth Obituary
Leo Harrison Ruth July 16, 1922 - July 12, 2013 Visitation for Leo will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Services will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Leo will be buried with Military Honors as allowed for his service in the Army during World War II. Leo was a Corporal and Medical Technician while serving in the Army. He was awarded a World War II Victory Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. Leo was born and raised on a farm in Spiro, Oklahoma. He entered the U.S. Army in October 1942. He met and married his wife Yvonne Dorothy Ruth in Germany and after the war they settled in Bakersfield and started a family. His passing was preceded by Yvonne in 1977. Leo is survived by his daughter, Linda, of Las Vegas, and son, Michael, of Pacific Grove, CA. His passing is also preceded by brothers: Harold, Robert, and Burley, and sisters; Velia and Daisy. His passing is also preceded by his loving companion of more than 30 years, Mary Lou Gilley, who passed in September, 2010. Leo and Mary Lou enjoyed traveling and spending time with Mary Lou's children and grandchildren. Leo worked in the Bakersfield oil industry after arriving in Bakersfield. He worked for Kern County Refinery and then for San Joaquin Refinery, where he functioned in a supervisory capacity. After retiring, he enjoyed time fishing in the Kern River with his nephew, David Ruth. Rest In Peace. www.bakersfield.com/obits
