Leonie A. Huston Obituary
Leonie A. Huston peacefully passed away surrounded by her family.
Mom was born in Malden, MA to Karl and Elsie Oberg. She attended N. Quincy High School in MA where she participated in many service clubs. She was voted the "Most Popular Girl" in 1942 and at the same time met her lifelong friend, Jim Spillane.
After graduation, she moved to San Diego where she worked and fell in love with Lieutenant Naval Officer, Jack B. Huston. They were married in 1946 and moved to Bakersfield to begin their family.
Mom spent her young adult years raising four children and also worked part time as a bookkeeper at the many liquor stores they owned. She also volunteered her time at Memorial Hospital's Auxiliary ("Cherry Cherry Girls"), Cub Scouts and Brownies. She loved living in the La Cresta area where she developed many close friendships and lifelong memories.
In 1973, Mom returned to college where she earned her AA degree and became a successful legal secretary to Jim Bowles, Lou Etcheverry and Joseph Giuffre. She was quite talented in craftwork; especially making personalized Christmas stockings for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking and was fancied as a very talented baker.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and is survived by her four adult children, Jack Jr., Terry (Rhonda), Janice Montoya (Rick) and Mike (Annette). Mom was also blessed with six grandchildren Rick, Morgan, Chris, Ryan, Katie and Zachary. Her family and friends will miss her humor, wit and smile. While Mom sadly realized she would miss Morgan's upcoming April wedding, we know she will be with her and Jake in spirit.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care received from Drs. Chris Hamilton and Todd Farrar; the staff at Hoffmann Hospice and her caring nurses Debbie, Carla, Wendy, Valerie and Destiny.
Respecting Mom's wishes, no memorial service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to St. Francis Church Youth and Community Center, 900 H Street, Bakersfield, CA 93304.
