Lily McCaskill Obituary
Lily Aranda (Martinez) McCaskill was born on October 1, 1927, and began her heavenly journey with our Lord on August 10, 2015. She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby; and husbands, Joe McCaskill and Fernando G. Martinez; parents; brother; and sister. She leaves behind daughters, Andrea Martinez and Diane Gonzalez; grandchildren, Dominic & Michelle and Jennifer Gonzalez; with her most special being the great-grandchildren, Emily Gonzalez, Braden Gonzalez, and Skyler Dearmore. Also left behind are sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
The most important part of her life was her love for the Lord and the church. She was an active member of St. Joseph Church as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She participated in the Golden Fellowship, The Prayer Blanket Ministry, and the Altar Society. She was a member of the Young Ladies Institute Deo Gratias, Catholic Daughter, and member of the Cursillo Movement, and when health allowed, serving lunch at the St. Vincent de Paul Homeless Center.
She was a member of Porterville State Hospital Parent Group and Special Olympics. She held various jobs from cafeteria worker, JAFRA distributor, caring for the elderly; but her special days were as cook/housekeeper for the priest at St. Joseph. She had the opportunity to travel all over Europe and travel throughout the state as a folk dancer. She will be acknowledged as someone who always helped others and having been blessed with so many special longtime friends.
A special thank you to Hoffmann Hospice, especially to Vanessa, Ana, Leslie, and Mason for their attentive care of Lily as her life was ending. With their help, the transition of putting her in our Lord's hand was a great source of support. Also big thanks to her special longtime friends, Paddy White and Joan Texeria, for always being there for her and providing her communion and wonderful meals.
Viewing will be held on Monday, August 17, 2015, from 4:00-8:00 at Greenlawn River Blvd. Rosary will be said at 9:30 with Mass following at 10:00 on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at St. Joseph Church, 1515 Baker St., followed by graveside services at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield, CA.
