LOIS GERTRUDE FERRELL, 97 years of age, a long-time resident of Bakersfield, passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2015.
Born in 1918 in Arkansas, both of her parents were Assembly of God pastors. She was one of six children and was devoted to her family. She moved to Bakersfield, CA as a young adult and lived next door to her parents and her dear sister, Lorene, for most of her adult life. Lois loved the Lord and the Assembly of God Church, and was always involved in ministry through her music and expert sewing. She worked for Sears Drapery Department for 30 years and loved every minute of it.
Lois was one of the very first residents of Florence Gardens. She loved her bright and beautiful apartment, fed the fish in her pond daily, and watched over the doves which nested on her front porch most years. Lois enjoyed 10 busy, happy years at Florence Gardens, singing with The Silvertones, learning to paint and socializing with her Florence Gardens family.
She is survived by loving nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember her as a very special aunt: Lovena Burchett, Max Friend, Glenda Brown, Letha Kindall, Wilbur Friend, Sereta Killon, Linda Sellers, Carolyn Hall, Patty Nading, and Janet Venegoni.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3700 River Boulevard, Bakersfield, CA.
