Lois J. Kessler Obituary
Recitation of the Rosary will be held in the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. for longtime Taft resident, Lois J. Kessler, 97. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Greskowiak at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the West Side District Cemetery.
Mrs. Kessler was born in Ava, Missouri on April 15, 1916 and passed away in Taft on February 7, 2014. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" on 10th and A Streets for B-17 bombers. She was a bookkeeper for many years and during those years she took care of her brothers' books at their gas stations along the coast. She continued bookkeeping and preparing taxes out of her home until the age of 83. Mrs. Kessler was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was an avid reader and great seamstress. Some of her most enjoyable times included gambling and staying in her home in Grover Beach. Mrs. Kessler loved her family and always enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with her dog, Daisy. At one time she even enjoyed being a caregiver to her brothers.
Mrs. Kessler was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bessie Nicholson; her husband, George Kessler in 1999; her grandson, Robert Kessler; her twin brothers, Bob and Don Nicholson and by her brother, Ralph Nicholson. Her survivors include her daughter and her husband, Susan and Tom Brown of Taft; her son and his wife, Bob and Darlene Kessler of Arroyo Grande; her grandchildren, Shelley Walters of Bakersfield, John Kessler and his wife, Lori of Bakersfield, Kal Vaughn and his wife, Cheryl of Taft, and Adam Vaughn and his wife, Lourdes of Taft; her step-grandchildren, Kari and Sam Maxwell, Randy Gonzales, Sindy and Dennis Walrath and Chuck and Sandra Gonzales; her six great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and by many other family members and extended family.
