Lois Novella Miller McNearney Obituary
Lois Novella Miller McNearney 8/19/1931 - 6/29/2013 ""Typical Coed" Miss Lois Miller 18 year old Bakersfield College Freshman is a "Typical Coed". She pays for her own clothes, books and other expenses by working four hours daily. The typical coed of the 1920's may have been the frivolous minded flapper often pictured in contemporary literature, but the average student today is different. Outstanding student in the college foods class. Miss Miller attends school in the morning and early afternoon and then works at Mercy Hospital from 3-7pm. She is a dietician's helper." (Newspaper article circa 1948.) Lois was everyone's Mom She moved to Bakersfield with her mother at the age of 13 to be near other family members. She attended Bakersfield High School and then Bakersfield College. She met her husband Gerry (Mac) and they married in 1953. Together they raised two children and participated in all of their activities. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, music lessons, sports, summer movies at the Tejon Theater. Countless camping trips with many, many kids along for the fun. She loved to cook and somehow people seemed to know when she was making her apple crisp or fried chicken and found themselves at her table. After Gerry's death in 1992 she began her career as a Bakersfield City School Bus Driver...where again she was "Mom" to lots of new kids. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She leaves behind her daughter Elaine McNearney and husband Norman Bussell. Son John McNearney and wife Caron. Grandson Matt McNearney and girlfriend Kimie Bouffard. Brother in law Serrill Brooks and sister in law Maxine Miller. Many nieces and nephews, great grandchildren and others who loved her. There will be a viewing at Greenlawn on River Blvd on July 7th from 2:30-4:30 and you are invited to bring your memories of Lois to share with others at an open house on Monday July 8th from 11am -2pm at Elaine & Norman's home.
