Louis Echenique Obituary

Louis M. Echenique May 5, 1916 - October 1, 2010 Mass/Rosary will be held Thursday, Oct. 7, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Francis Church for Louis M. Echenique, 94, of Bakersfield, who died October 1, 2010. Rev. Msg. Craig F. Harrison will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Lou, born in Bakersfield, was an owner and operator of a service station for fifty years before he retired. He was a World War II veteran and honorary member of the Kern County Basque Club. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and loved to watch his grandkids and niece and nephews play sports. He was very proud of them and often gave them pointers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie; parents, Miguel and Marie Louise Echenique; stepdad, Pete Supera; his two brothers, Thomas J. and John P. Echenique. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Beverley; daughters, Helen Echenique, Marie Cuello and husband Jose; son and daughter of Thomas J., Tom Echenique and wife Debby, Barbara Walker and husband Dennis; daughters of John P., Nancy Ansolabehere and Betsy Hauck; grandchildren, Aimee, Patrick, Cara, Kristy, Brian, Eric, Andre and Makenzie. The family would like to thank his good friend Skip for always being there for him, and express appreciation to Cecil. Pallbearers will be Patrick, Brian, Eric and Andre, John Ansolabehere, Skip Tackett and Cecil Odom. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Romain Clerou and Larry Errea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 3-7 p.m., at Doughty, 1100 Truxtun Ave. Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara www.bakersfield.com/obits
