Louise Marcella Recatune Smiddy Obituary
Our mother, Louise Marcella Recatune Smiddy passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 5, 2015.
Mom was born April 10, 1928, in Reno, Nevada to Domingo and Marcelina (Noriega) Recatune, and raised in Bakersfield, California in the landmark Noriega House on Baker Street. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and East Bakersfield High School, class of 1945.
After graduating, she began her career in the Kern County Clerks Office. She so enjoyed her time working as a Superior Court Clerk for 45 years, making great friends and cherished memories.
Our mother fondly talked about her wonderful childhood memories spent at the sheep camp with her family at Mono Lake as well as all of her travels, to Cuba, Mexico, and Hawaii with her cousin Marilyn and friends. She also treasured her yearly summer vacations to Hermosa Beach with her girls, sister, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Louise married Robert Smiddy in March of 1962 and had the two most precious gifts of her life, her girls, Lisa and Marcie.
She was devoted to her family and was the most loving, thankful, caring, generous, giving mom and Nana that we could be blessed to have. She always put her family above all else. If you were her friend, you knew how fortunate you were to receive her call or card to let you know that you were important to her and she was thinking about you.
She is preceded in death by her mom and dad, her infant sister Louisa, her sister and best friend Jean Eyherabide, brother-in-law Dominic, nephew Jim, and her loving brother Don Recatune.
She is survived by her girls Lisa Smiddy and fiance Buddy Pudiwitr and Marcie Fanucchi and husband Richard; cherished grandchildren Matthew and Courtney Clark and Julia and Dominic Fanucchi, nephew Dominic (Barbara) and nieces Marcia, Eugenia, and Cyndi Eyherabide and their families, as well as many dear cousins.
We would like to give special thanks to Optimal Hospice Nurses Madelyn and Jill.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Matthew and Dominic, nephew Dominic, and great-nephews Jim and Marc Eyherabide, and Dominic Kirby. Honorary
Pallbearers are John Carter, Paul Summers, and Mike, Eddie, and Bruce Noriega.
Words can never express the love we will always hold for the most wonderful of ladies. This unique woman presented a beautiful and intriguing presence that we all looked forward to seeing. We hold the the memories of our special nana and mom in our hearts forever. We love you. Thank you God for the privilege of having blessed our lives with her. She was one of a kind.
A Rosary will be held at 9:30 and Mass to follow at 10 a.m. December 11, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1515 Baker Street, Bakersfield, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to and have a cocktail and a toast to our mom. Salute!
