Lucille Toschi Obituary

Lucille Alice "Jan" Toschi 1909 - 2010 Lucille Alice Toschi, age 101, known to her friends and family as "Jan," peacefully passed away on December 26, 2010, with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. Jan was born to Celestin and Lydia Vivian on January 12, 1909, in Bakersfield. Jan attended local schools in Bakersfield, and before her marriage, she worked for the telephone company. She married Charles Toschi on February 14, 1931. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Betty. After the death of her husband in 1959, Jan returned to work and retired from the Kern County Probation Department, Adult Division, on January 22, 1972. Jan, who was fluent in French, loved flowers and spent many happy hours in her gardens. She was an animal lover, and had the joy of caring for many loving pets over the years and will be missed by her Cocker Spaniel, Bonnie. Born to French parents and married to an Italian husband provided Jan with many opportunities to cook wonderful meals. She was a marvelous cook, and no one could top her pork roast dinner which she shared with family and friends. Jan attended St. Joseph Church. Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and her brother, Val Vivian. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Betty and son-in-law Norman Wills; her granddaughters, Sharon (and Bob) Wasden and Lee Ann ( and Rich) Hansen; and her two beautiful great-granddaughters, Anna Wasden and Ava Hansen. Jan will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank the Golden Living Center for the excellent care that Jan received over the past eight years. The family would also like to especially thank caregivers, Beth, Sineth, Josie, Willie, Linda, and Dr. Memon for their special attention to Jan's care. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Jan's nurse, Debbie, who gave such loving and devoted care. Funeral services will be held at the Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara Funeral Home, 1100 Truxtun Ave., at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2010. Interment will be at the Union Cemetery in Bakersfield. Betty , my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I was privileged to have been one of your mothers nurses and to witness how much she was loved. She was a wonderful woman and she will be missed. You were an exceptional daughter.
