Lucille Son Obituary

Lucille May Son December 7, 1928 - December 27, 2010 Lucille May Son passed peacefully after a short battle with Leukemia, December 27, 2010. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Doughty-Calhoun- O'Meara Funeral Home, 1100 Truxtun Ave. with private interment in the family plot at Union Cemetery. Lucille was born in Bakersfield and attended Fairfax Elementary School and Kern County Union High School graduating in 1946. She was very active in 4-H and loved to sew and dance. Lucille would look forward to Saturday nights and the dances at the Fairfax Grange or the La Granada Ballroom. After graduation, Lucille went to work for California Water Service and Crocker Bank where she opened the first drive-thru-teller window in Bakersfield. She continued her banking career in Fresno, CA, Renton, WA, and Porterville, CA until rejoining California Water Service upon her return to Bakersfield. She ultimately retired from California Water Service after 19 years of dedicated service. August 1990, Lucille married James S. Son, her best friend and the love of her life. They had 19 wonderful years together traveling all over the world. They didn't miss many places. On the home front, they were fond of the Kon Tiki in Pismo Beach and loved watching the ocean, Taco Tuesdays and Friday Night Steaks at the Eagles Lodge and Hamburger Wednesdays at Shriners' Park. Lucille always enjoyed going out to eat. She would laugh and comment on watching the babies and small children at Valley Plaza while having lunch and taking a walk. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Francis M. and Mary Sterling; husband, James S. Son; stepson, Kenny Dozah and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by her daughter, Nadine (Robert) Limi; grandson, Vance Limi; brother, Frank (Lavonia) Sterling; sister, Faye (Roy) Williams; and stepdaughter, Cheri Dozah Camacho and numerous relatives. A Special Thank You to Drs. Stephen Helper, Ravi Patel, Richard Ng, Sam Singh and all the wonderful staff at CBCC, the Heart Hospital, and Rosewood Senior Living Community. Also, words cannot express our gratitude to special friends (family) Patti Phoenix and Vivian McDowell. We couldn't have made it through the past year without your loving help and support. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity. Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara www.bakersfield.com/obits

What a wonderful woman! I had the opportunity to know Lucille & Jim while they were neighbor's of my parent. Lucille made me laugh & put a smile on my face each time I talked to her. She was a generous, caring and a graceful woman. May God bless you Nadine and your family during this very difficult time. Lucille is dancing with Jim and her angels in our glorious heaven!

We cannot express the loss we feel losing "our" Lucy! Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family and friends. I first met her when we both worked at Crocker Anglo Bank in 1956. It was a joy knowing her and her family.
