Lucy Youngblood-Smith Obituary

Lucy May Youngblood-Smith 1922 - 2010 Lucy May Youngblood- Smith passed away December 26, 2010, in Chester, Montana. Born Lucy May Youngblood to Charlie Eli Youngblood and Nellie Edna Pearl (Andrews) Youngblood in Richardville, Oklahoma on May 10, 1922. She was one of eleven children: brothers, James, Leroy, JB and JR Youngblood; sisters, Pearl Frisbie, Edna Frisbie, Lizzie Phillips, Maggie Phillips, Betty Welch-Parker; and baby sister, Pauline Youngblood. The Youngblood family migrated to Bakersfield, California in 1936. On November 6, 1937 at the age of fifteen, she married Ernest B. Smith. The newlyweds settled down in the Arvin- Lamont area. Ernest and Lucy had six children, Shirley, Ernestine, Don, Wanda, Jan and Tonia. She also had a stepdaughter from Ernest's first marriage, Thelma J. Brown. Lucy's life was devoted to raising their children and helping with the farm, where they raised cotton, alfalfa and boysenberries. Ernest passed away September 17, 1999. Lucy moved to Chester, Montana on August 10, 2006, to be near some of her children. Lucy was blessed many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her later years Lucy began collecting dolls, and enjoyed finding and adding them to her collection. She loved yard sales. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; nine of her siblings; her daughter, Wanda M. Gibson; and her grandchildren, Dennis Clark and Magen Wickum. She is survived by her children, Shirley Harrington (Bob), Ernestine Beshears-Mader (Gary), Don Smith (Pat), Jan Hendricks (Danny) and Tonia Wickum (Steve); stepdaughter, Thelma Brown (Fred); and her sister, Betty Welch-Parker. I recal visiting Lucy in Bakersfeld with her daughter Jan. She was always a charming and welcoming lady. She will be missed. God Bless, rest in the Lord's arms.

I would like to offer my condolences to the Family of Lucy May.My maiden name was Michelle Rhodes,I was married to Richard Gibson,Carl is his uncle.I remember going out to Ernest and Lucy's for card games. She always made me fill welcome,always lots of good food,and plenty of good natured gossip.I also have these good memories of Wanda there too,God rest her Soul.
