Lurelle "Bergie" Bergam

Lurelle "Bergie" Bergam Obituary
The Lord Jesus brought Lurelle Thomas Bergam to his heavenly home on August 7, 2015. Bergie was born in Montana to Herbert and Alice Bergam and grew up in Nyssa, Oregon. In 1955, he graduated from the College of Idaho, married his college sweetheart, Shirley, and together they moved to Bakersfield, California. He taught math at Emerson, Curran, and Chipman Junior High Schools and was a boys' counselor at Washington and Curran Jr High Schools. His career lasted 37 years.
Bergie was very involved at First Presbyterian Church as an Elder, Sunday school teacher and advisor for 50 years. He was in Bible Study Fellowship as a leader for many years. Bergie loved to fish, golf, garden, paint, work crossword puzzles, read to his children (and later his grandchildren), and spend time with family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years Shirley; son David and children Amy, Nick, and Haley; son Chris (Sandy) and children Daniel (Aleah), Jacob, and Cassy; daughter Margaret Roberts; daughter Janet Conner (James); his siblings Don, Jim, Roger and Marlene, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ramon, son-in-law Brent Roberts and daughter-in-law Roxane.
Bergie's family would like to thank the staff at The Park and Palm Living for their loving care. It was a comfort to us knowing he was in kind and capable hands.
In remembrance of Bergie, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to Bible Study Fellowship. A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 29th at 10:00 am, First Presbyterian Church, 1705 17th Street, Bakersfield, Ca.
