Lyla Williams Obituary
Lyla Williams 1925 - 2012 Lyla Williams passed away November 1, 1925 at the age of 87 from stroke-related complications. Lyla was born in 1925 in Streeter, North Dakota, the 4th child of 7 born to Russian and German immigrants. She grew up on a farm speaking only German until attending school where she had to learn English, largely from her classmates. Her education was interrupted when, at the age of 11, she lost her mother and had to work full-time on the farm. This lead to her father remarrying and her siblings eventually grew from 6 to 16. In 1943 she married Emanuel Junkert in Billings Montana where they owned the Billings City Mattress Works and later a bar/lounge in Bridger Montana. They had 3 children and in 1957 they separated and eventually divorced, where from that point she lived in numerous cities and states from coast to coast. In 1971 she settled in Delano having joined 3 of her sisters who were long time Delano residents and through which in 1974 she met and married Richard Williams, the owner of the Delano Cab Company. Richard had 4 grown children of his own and in the years to come the two families became close and enjoyed many years of happy family life. Lyla was the ultimate homemaker, tending to their flower and vegetable gardens, baking and candy making and hosting most of the holidays for many years for all of the extended family and their friends. As a child, she was too poor to have a doll except for those made of mud and straw, but in her later years she discovered porcelain dolls and her collection grew to upwards of 300 dolls. Her husband Richard preceded her in death in 2005. Lyla is survived by 2 brothers, Denny Remmick and Albert Krenzler, both of Billings Montana, 3 children, 3 stepchildren, 7 grand children, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Lyla will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Memorial Service to be held November 17, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Parkview Memorial Chapel, 315 South Lexington St., Delano, CA 93215 with the gathering of family and friends immediately following at the Church of Christ, 804 Jefferson St., Delano CA. www.bakersfield.com/obits
