Mamie Louise Shelton Obituary
Mamie Louise Gastineau Shelton was born in Eram, Oklahoma on July 10, 1920 to Ross and Kate Gastineau. She was the 9th of 12 children. In 1936, she married Bill Shelton in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and great-great- grandmother passed on January 22, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, ten brothers and sisters, husband Bill Shelton and grandson Mike Shelton. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Dick (Patsy), Tom (LaRae) and Dan (Donna), 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, her sister Naomi Motley of Sacramento and many nieces and nephews.
While living in Bakersfield, she was a deputy sheriff and worked the jail for 8 years. She and Bill moved to Long Beach in 1970 and she was a correctional officer for 11 years at Terminal Island Federal Prison.
She was very active in P.T.A. while her boys were in school and belonged to the P.T.A. Mothers Singers. When they moved to Temecula, she sang with the group from the Senior Center and played bridge for many years. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Sorority for 58 years, the Red Hat Club and belonged to the Methodist Church.
She and Bill went to Europe and Hawaii and all over the United States in their motor home visiting family and friends. She had many friends who loved her dearly because of her genuine warmth and love for others. We wish to thank the staff of Emeritus Memory Unit for the wonderful care they gave Mamie. We also thank Gentiva and Hoffmann Hospice for their great care.
Graveside services will be held Friday, February 6th at 1:00 P.M. at the Temecula Cemetery, 41911 C St., Temecula, California. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to .
