Marcella Dunkin Gardner Sanders Obituary
Marcella Dunkin Gardner Sanders May 12, 1934 - July 1, 2013 Visitation for Marcella Dunkin Gardner Sanders will be held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel (3312 Niles Street) on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery (3700 River Blvd.) Reception will follow at Basham Funeral Care. After a long and courageous battle with Cancer, our cherished mother has gone to Heaven. Her presence in our lives was more treasured than can be expressed, and we reluctantly let her go. Marcella's life began with 18 siblings and is best described as one of self-sacrifice and triumph through trial. She was strong and brave and the epitome of spunk, fight and fire. She was beautiful, inside and out. Marcella loved with all her heart and life. She struggled greatly, being widowed three times. Her heart broke with each situation as she cared for each seriously ill husband with extreme love and care. She never felt sorry for herself (as she would say) but counted it a privilege to care for another when they suffered. She was a gifted, natural care-giver. Her faith as a Christian was important and genuine, and grew stronger as she re-committed her life to Christ in later years. Marcella loved her children and family and demonstrated that love in countless ways. Whether it was cooking for us, or listening to our troubles, she was always there to love us unconditionally. Through every part of life she taught us courage through difficulty and gratefulness with humility through triumph. She taught us to get over ourselves through tough times, to fight for what was worth the battle, but to quickly forgive and forget when wronged. She leaves five children, Teresa (Tess) Wright and son-in-law, H. Norman Wright, Rosemary Ballew and son-in-law Tom Ballew, son, David Ray Prince, son, Larry Gene Prince, and daughter, Carolyn Ann Robson; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren are almost countless but she touched all their lives in little and big ways. We love you mama. We are so grateful for you and thank you for all you gave us. No one could have been a better mother. We have great sorrow but in it we rejoice that your pain is finally over. We will miss you so very much but, because of Jesus, we know we will be with you again in Heaven. Until then...we smile because we know you are dancing in Heaven.
