Margaret Anne McGuire Obituary
Margaret McGuire was born September 22, 1917 in Coalinga, California to Dennis and Margaret McGuire who are deceased. They moved to Taft, California, in 1920. Margaret attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Taft Union High School in 1938. Margaret had one sister, Mary Borkovich and husband George Borkovich and five brothers who are all deceased. After her high school graduation, she attended Mercy College of Nursing in San Diego graduating in 1941 as a Registered Nurse. She held a position in the Surgery Department of Mercy Hospital in San Diego until September 2, 1942. Then she joined the United States Navy on September 8, 1942 and became Ensign Margaret McGuire stationed at the naval hospital in Coronado until April 25, 1944. After the birth of her daughter, Rosie, in Taft, CA, Margaret moved to Bakersfield in 1945 and was a Registered Nurse to Dr. James Kirby and worked weekends at Mercy Hospital. After he died, Margaret worked full time as a R.N., received her Bachelor of Science Degree in August 1978 from Chapman College, and retired from Mercy Hospital in 1982. Upon her retirement, Margaret was very active in the California Nurses Association, where she served as President for several years and traveled to their conventions in many states in the U.S., including Hawaii, Nevada, and Asian and European countries.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Rosie Enwright Azparren, grandchildren Francine Hutchings and husband Donovan Hutchings; Sherri Copeland and husband Tom Copeland; great grandchildren Kaylee Copeland, Kristina Copeland, Kaden Hutchings and Evan Hutchings; Nieces Theresa Borkovich, Katherine Borkovich, Margaret Weddle and Ann Marie Brunson; Nephews Paul Borkovich, John Borkovich, Gerard Borkovich; Great Nephews Zachary Weddle, Erik Hodges, Joseph Borkovich, George Borkovich, Nicholas Borkovich, and Matthew Borkovich; Great Nieces Claire Weddle, Amy Hodges, Emma Borkovich, and Sara Borkovich.
The family would also like to give special thanks to LifeHOUSE Bakersfield Operations at 730 34th Street who took excellent care of her for the past 6 years.
Rosary at 8:30 a.m. July 17 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. on July 17, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Boulevard. Doughty- Calhoun-O'Meara Funeral Directors will have a public viewing on Thursday, July 16 from 3-7 p.m.
