Maria de la Luz Bermudez

1944 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Maria de la Luz Bermudez Obituary
Maria de la Luz Bermudez May 28, 1944-September 17, 2013 Maria de la Luz Bermudez was born May 28, 1944. She went home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. She never gave up, never complained, and her faith in God helped her maintain a brave and positive outlook until the end. Maria (Luz) was born in Durango, Mexico. She moved to Bakersfield in 1961. Luz met her husband Rafael in Bakersfield. They were married for 34 years and had three children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest love was caring for others either by cooking, listening, or giving words of support and encouragement. She was member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved taking vacations with her family including cruises and annual summer trips to Pismo Beach. She took great pride in her home and especially her garden and bird aviary. She enjoyed spending her Saturday mornings with her sister-in- law Anita while they searched yard sales for the best bargains. But her greatest joy was her grandchildren and making them happy. She will be missed and we could have not asked for a better grandmother "Grammy", for our children, she was simply the best. She was preceded in death by her husband Rafael Bermudez and their daughter, Sonia Bermudez. She is survived by her mother, Magdalena Soto, daughter and son-in-law Maria and James Cronjager; son and daughter-in-law, Jaime and Alicia Bermudez; grandsons, Joseph Bermudez and James Edward Cronjager and granddaughters, Joselyn Bermudez and Juliana Cronjager. She is also survived by her brothers David Soto and Lupe Soto and sisters Martha Rollice, Leticia Ramirez, Gabriela Soto, Irene Baeza and Graciela Soto, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation for Maria will be held at Greenlawn Mortuary (3700 River Blvd.) on September 24th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1515 Baker Street on Wednesday, September 25th, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. For additional service information or floral delivery information, please contact Greenlawn Mortuary 324-9701.
