Marie Alberta Kent died Tuesday, Apr. 22 at the age of 93. She was born in Bakersfield, CA on Nov. 20, 1920 the oldest daughter of parents Albert & Cora Buttles.Marie grew up near Wasco. In 1941 she married Fred Kent (from Tennessee) and the couple had two children, Richard and Michael. During WWII Fred entered the service and was stationed at various locations within the States which required the couple to move as needed. After the war Marie and Fred returned to the Central Valley and ran the Burbank Duck Club west of Pond for nearly two decades. Later in life she was employed as a dental assistant in Bakersfield and for a short time Fred & Marie even attempted mining rare minerals near Yuma, AZ. Marie cherished her family more than anything and just like her mother before her she was an outstanding cook and host. After Fred passed away in 1990 she continued to live on the property until the last few years of her life. She resided with her son Michael and daughter-in-law Denise for the last year and passed away peacefully in their loving presence.
