Marie Yost Obituary
Marie Yost passed away April 24, 2014 at the wonderful and blessed age of 92 after a brief illness. She was born in Redwood Falls, MN to Effie and Leo Barrett and lived in Havana, ND from second grade through high school. She attended Valley City Teachers College and then moved to Minneapolis to attend medical secretarial school ultimately working for Dr. Moe, an orthopedic surgeon, which she truly enjoyed.
Marie married James Yost in 1943 and in 1946 moved to Corcoran, CA where he began his career with the J.G. Boswell Company. In 1951 they moved to Litchfield Park, AZ where Mom learned to play golf. Four years later they returned to Corcoran where she became active in the local 50-50 Club and Children's Hospital doing volunteer and charitable work. When Jim retired they moved to Bakersfield where she continued to help school children with their reading skills. An avid golfer, bridge player, entertainer, and fabulous cook, Marie was also a loyal friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and more recently a great grandmother. She carried this spirit to the end, more concerned about the well being of her caregivers rather than herself.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband Jim, son Gary, and good friend Bill Nelson.
She is survived by her daughter Sandy (Husband Martin Koeppel), son Alan
"A Y" (Wife Jody), granddaughters Jennifer (Nigel Abraham), Dustyn (Aaron Bailey), and Erin Stamos, great grandchildren Kelsey and Hudson Abraham, Dylan and Devon Bailey, and nephews Jim and John Hammond.
There are too many individuals to thank personally, but they start with the Stockdale Country Club and the relationships and friendships she developed through the years; The Carriage House and its members and staff who embraced Mom from her first day of residence, introducing her to a new and truly enjoyable lifestyle; More recently the medical and nursing staff at Mercy Southwest and the Bakersfield Heart Hospital; Ultimately the Skilled Nursing Facility at Glenwood Gardens, including their administration, amazing therapy personnel, medical assistants, aides, chefs, and also her co-residents encouraging her while dealing with their own issues as well-truly a compassionate and caring community.
Enjoying a good time, Mom requested a Celebration of Life which will be held at Mexicali West, Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 11:00 am- 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers she would wish you to make a donation to your charitable organization of choice.
