Mark Brian Margraves Obituary
Mark Margrave went to be with the Lord on Saturday June 21, 2014, at his home in Bakersfield, CA. Mark was born and raised in Bakersfield. He graduated from local schools. While attending Bakersfield High School, he began his passion for machining and manufacturing products made from steel.
Mark had just celebrated 30 years with Bakersfield Pipe & Supply. He worked inside sales, outside sales, and management. His passion was outside sales, where he met and made many close friends. His loyalty to his friends and customers was second to none. Mark loved the owners, fellow workers, and customers at Bakersfield Pipe. In 30 years, he never complained about his job and just worked his way through the problems. Mark would treat his clients with the utmost respect, but he also received the respect of a job well done. Mark will be greatly missed by not only his immediate family, but also his business family. Someone should notify Smith's Bakery that their production needs to be lowered due to his passing. We will all miss the many strange and wonderful surprises he would drive up with on a daily basis. After 30 years, Mark continued to set personal goals that he would achieve; his latest was to be the top salesman for BPS.
Mark was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed not only the process, but the friendships that evolved while doing said activities. His best friend, Ken Dunbar, took Mark along on many adventures. I think we all received some of the huge halibut that they caught in Alaska together. Ken and Trish treated Mark like a brother, and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.
Mark enjoyed many hobbies that most of us only dream about. Remote helicopters built in Germany, go-carts that traveled so fast he would constantly break track records, remote cars, both gas and electric. We all loved Mark's toys. Mark loved to work hours on end reloading bullets and shells and then giving them to friends to use. His scuba diving would bring a few lucky ones some of the best lobster ever.
After Mark's auto accident, he was always in tremendous pain. Not anymore! He would frequently have coffee with Angel. She would listen passionately and gave him the strength to carry on. Thank you, Angel, for being there for him; you truly are an angel.
His close friend John Geske, who would always be there to help Mark through the tough days and prod him into staying busy so as to lessen his pain. John also treated Mark as a close brother, and for that we thank him.
Mark was preceded in passing by his parents, Barbara and William Margrave; and his older sister, Karen Margrave. Mark is survived by his brother, Bruce and wife, Patti; his brother, Jerry and wife, Debbie; his sister, Carol Hill and husband, Jerry; and his nieces and nephews, Jon Margrave, James and Jennifer Margrave, Joshua and Jeramy Hill, and Julie Hill-Belflower. We will all miss his infectious smile.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Visitation will be Friday, June 27, 2014, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. For condolences please visit www.greenlawnmortuaryandcemetery.com.
