04/18/1958 - 02/07/2014 Obituary
Mark Edwards Cerro, born April 18th, 1958, was raised in Bakersfield, California, with his older brother Philip by their beloved parents Philip and Johnnie Cerro. He was called home to our Heavenly Father on February 7th, 2014 after fighting a courageous battle with Valley Fever.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Julie; mother, Johnnie; brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Lisa; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jeff; daughter and fiance, Shanna and Shawn; daughter and fiance, Candice and Michael; granddaughter, Kirbie; other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Mark attended West High, graduating in 1976, and is also a Bakersfield College graduate. Mark had three loves: God, his Family, and the Farm. He married his high school sweetheart, Julie on May 23rd, 1980. Shortly thereafter, they started their family and had three daughters, his "little ladies." He also found great joy with his granddaughter, who called him "pops." Mark, the son of a farmer, was born with soil in his blood. He and his brother started their farming partnership in 1982. He worked tirelessly to grow the best cotton, corn, wheat, and alfalfa he could. Following in his father's footsteps, Mark took great pride in serving as director of the board for the Kern Delta Weedpatch Cotton Ginning Company.
Mark is best known for his sense of humor, and his love of children and animals. He also loved shooting skeet with his friends and family, fishing, Basque food, and barbecuing. He will also be known for his kind heart and his generosity. He was a good listener and loved to give advice. In short, he was "Larger than Life."
Funeral services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish on February 18th, 2014 at
10:30 am (Rosary at 10:00 am).
