Marshall Wayne Smith Obituary
Marshall Wayne Smith 1939-2013 Marshall was born in Bakersfield, California on November 22, 1939. He was the second child of Malcolm and Carol (Connally) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Shafter and graduated from Shafter High School in 1957. After graduation, he served three years in the US Army and was stationed in Okinawa. He married Pat Horn in 1961 and during their marriage they had two children together; Craig and Becky. Marshall can be best remembered standing behind the sales counter at Frank Russell Manufacturing for 30 years until his retirement in 2005. In 1984, he married his soul mate, Mary Taylor. They were literally joined together when she was his kidney donor in 1996; a gift that would enable him 16 years of living dialysis free. Their retirement years were filled with vacationing with family, reading, and their quiet life together. Marshall was preceded in death by his stepson, Greg Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Mary; son Craig & Julia Smith, daughter Becky & Vic Ortiz, stepson Phil & Nancy Taylor, stepdaughter Becky & Dave Driskill. He was "Papa" to Benjamin Gibson, Julian Villalvazo, Vaughn, Liz, Ian and Ariel Driskill, Lila and Tess Taylor. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn & Franklin Bergman of Shafter, brother, Arnold & Paulette Smith of Glennville and sister, Nancy & Terry Wells of Bakersfield. Marshall was the perfect example of a "gentle" man; he was kind, loving and generous, and he was loved in return. Services will be held Friday, January 25 at 1:00 pm at Peter's Funeral Home in Shafter for Marshall Wayne Smith, age 73, of Shafter who passed away January 20, 2013.
