Mary Costa Obituary
Mary passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital with her husband of 35 years, Mark Costa, her sister, Betty Jenkins, and nephew, Todd Jenkins by her side.
Mary was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She was working for Dobbs House in Memphis, Tennessee, when she met her future husband, Mark, while he was attending Cotton Classing School in 1979. Mark returned to Bakersfield with Mary, and they married in 1980. Mary worked for Tenneco West starting in 1980 in the traffic department until they closed the Bakersfield office. She then was employed as an administrative assistant for Nestle Foods until the mid 1990s. After her tenure at Nestle's, she became a homemaker and developed her love and skill for cooking. Mary was a devoted wife, loving sister and aunt, and a wonderful daughter-in-law to John and Ann Costa. Mary also was known for her great love and devotion to her dogs.
Her great fashion sense, style, grace, charm, and beauty made her the perfect host for the many holiday functions she enjoyed preparing for her friends and family, and everyone will remember her warmth and ability to make you laugh with her down-to-earth humor. She will truly be missed by all who know her.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Costa of Bakersfield; sister, Betty Jenkins of East Prairie, Missouri; sister, Joyce Brockus of East Prairie, Missouri; father-in-law, John Costa, of Bakersfield; brother-in-law, Lance and sister-in-law, Linda Costa, from Grover Beach, CA; one niece; and three nephews.
Thank you to Dr. Hansa, Memorial and Mercy Southwest Hospital, and Alternative Care for their compassionate care.
