Born in Ansley, Louisiana, Mary was the third of eight children of Riley and Grace Hamm. The family moved to Bakersfield in 1937. With her outgoing personality and huge, engaging smile, Mary had many friends and was adept at keeping the conversation lively in any group. She was known for her charm, repore with people, and love of life. Always a strong woman, in her later years, she valiantly battled cancer and other illnesses.
Mary had an extensive career in business, first as a customer service observer for Pacific Bell. In 1957, she became the Executive Officer of the Bakersfield Association of REALTORS, serving for thirty-three years. She was a past member and president of the Zonta Club, officer of the Administrative Management Society, one term on the Bakersfield City Planning Commission, active in many community organizations, representing REALTORS. She served both Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a leader in church school and youth activities, and at our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where Mary and husband, George were active in the RCIA classes and Mary participated in the Women's Auxiliary.
Mary and husband, George were previously long-time neighbors, each with their own families. The families were great friends, enjoying neighborhood parties and outings. When each was alone, they married, merged their families, joyfully sharing children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by husband, George A. Hoggatt; daughter, Terri Lynn Statler; step-son, George Douglas Hoggatt; and brothers, Riley, Robert and Barney Hamm. Surviving family to remember Mary with love includes her siblings: Priscilla Everett, Tillie Resley, James Ray Hamm (Linda) and Polly Hamm; granddaughter, Cortney Williams (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Kieran and Cale; granddaughter, Kristen Bussmann (Matthew); great-grandchildren Crosby and Jackson; son-in-law Gordon Statler; stepdaughter Marilyn Hoggatt McIndoe (Gar) and their sons, Scott Robertson (Kristen) and Keith McIndoe; and great-granddaughter, Randilyn; grandson, Kevin Matthew Hoggatt (Julie); great-grandchildren, Austin, Sierra and Jacob; granddaughter, Kristen Altbaum (Ron); great-grandchildren, Bradley, Lane and Kayley; granddaughter, Jennifer Rocca (Curt); great-grandchildren, Lyndsey, Grant and Alex; and daughter-in-law Sharon Hoggatt. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
The family is extremely appreciative of the care that Mary received from the entire staff at Rosewood Retirement Community, from Dr. Ravi Patel and Dr Michelle Remmes, and would like to thank Hoffmann Hospice staff.
