Mary Louise Anderson Saldubehere Obituary
Mary Louise Anderson Saldubehere died on July 8th, 2015 just before 5:30 p.m. in a car accident 2 miles from her home in Lancaster, California. This had been her home for over 60 years. Mary Lou was born to Antoine Saldubehere and Elisabeth Mariluch on December 4, 1926 in the small Pyrennes Mountain town of Les Aldudes. Sponsored by family member in the United States, she arrived in Bakersfield in the year 1950. Mary Lou worked with various family members as an au pair. It was not long before after arriving in Bakersfield that she met her future husband Antone Saldubehere, a Lancaster sheep rancher, farmer and father of two daughters, Antoinette and Adrienne, that the two were wed.
Mary Lou loved cooking, keeping as she would say a "spic and span" home, taking care of others, knitting gifts and playing the Basque card game of "mus" with her family and friends. The one thing she loved the most was spending her summers in the Sierra Mountains, specifically in Lee Vinning. Early mornings in the Sierra's would find her trout fishing at one of the many creeks or favorite fishing holes she frequented in the area. Even in her later years Mary Lou fondly spoke of the wonderful parties and bar-b-ques that she and Antone hosted for their family many friends and family. Antone passed away in 1980. In 1985 Mary Lou married Paul Anderson also a fisherman at heart. Together they could often be found patiently trolling with their boat on Gull Lake. Mary Lou was still planning to travel to Lee Vinning this summer for a few weeks before her untimely death.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband Paul, daughter Antoinette (Ray) Smith, Adrienne (Juan) Goyeneche, four grandchildren, John (Avon) Goyeneche, Amy Smith, Gina (Daniel) Alegre, and Geoffrey (Denise) Smith. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren. Alexis, Nicholas, Conner, Jack, Max, Alexandra, Daniel, Alexander, and Claire, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins throughout the US and France.
Rosary will be recited at 8:30 a.m. followed by Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Monsignor Craig Harrison at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015. Both will be held at St. Francis Church, 900 H Street, Bakersfield. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
