Maureen Catherine Etcheverry Obituary
On November 1, 2014, Maureen was called to heaven on All Saints Day after a short but courageous battle with brain cancer. She remained strong and positive throughout the entire journey.
Maureen was born on May 20, 1957 to Michel and Margaret Etcheverry and was one of the triplets.
Maureen attended Norris Elementary School, Garces Memorial High School and graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in criminal justice. She worked for the County of Kern as a social worker and most recently she was an independent contractor for Maverick Petroleum in Bakersfield California.
Maureen was fearless and lived life large. She had a smile that would light up a room. She loved being outdoors, whether it was in the mountains, at the beach or just spending time with her friends. Maureen never met a stranger and possessed the gift of gab. She was the most loyal friend anyone could ask for. Maureen cherished her friendships and always put others ahead of herself. "Family isn't always about blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what".
Maureen was very proud of her Basque heritage and was a member of the Kern County Basque Club and the Bo Peeps. Maureen was a huge lover of animals, always rescuing or finding a home for a four legged friend in need. She leaves behind her precious furry girls Maggie, Marley and Moxie.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Michel and Margaret Etcheverry. She leaves behind her brothers and their wives, Mike and Theresa, Mark and Jennifer, Martin and Kathy, Matthew and Jenny; nieces and nephews: Martin, Meeghan, Mason, Maritxu, Jean Pierre Etcheverry, Kristen Knopf and Yvette Teeples, Aunt Julie, numerous cousins and a large extended "family".
Maureen was a caring and compassionate individual who will be so very deeply missed by her best friends, Mary Ellen Odom, Rocki Parnell, Becky Amundsen and Lisa Hance, all of whom showed unconditional love, care and support for her. A heartfelt thanks goes out to her "angels" Rosie, Veronica and Arianna for all their help and support during Maureen's illness.
Pallbearers will be Martin, Mason and Jean Pierre Etcheverry, Joe and Jon Busby, Mike Reed and Michael Thomas.
Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, November 7th at 10:45 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 900 H Street, Bakersfield, CA. Msgr. Craig Harrison will officiate. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, 730 E. Potomac, Bakersfield, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kern County Basque Club or Cathey's K9 Rescue, PO Box 622, Lake Isabella CA 93240.
