He will be deeply missed by his life partner, Duane Jenkins of Bakersfield; his parents, Fred and Dolores LaMarsna of Taft; his brother, John LaMarsna of Bakersfield; his sisters, Clarine Gilliam (Scott) of Bakersfield; Renee Oliver of Bakersfield; Christy Jarvenin (James) of Taft; Concha Sykes and Rosa Gostan of Bakersfield; his in-laws, Donald and Rose Jenkins of Eugene, Oregon and Jennifer Jenkins of Bakersfield; his uncle, Rafael Herrera of Yakima Washington; and his many cousins, nieces and nephews. His feline family will also be lost without their beloved master; Mischief, Hazel, Vive, Snowball, Midnight Rose, and Harriet.
Michael or Mike, as he was often called, was born May 14, 1967 in Yakima, Washington. He moved to Taft, California when he was 13 years old, graduated from Lincoln Junior High and then Taft Union High School in 1985. He attended Taft College and served in the California Conservation Corps. He moved to Bakersfield in 1999 until his death. Mike did not know a stranger or a stray. He was the most kindhearted person and would give you his last dollar. He loved watching sci-fi movies with his mom and taking a yearly road trip to Oregon with Duane.
He lived life with boisterous laughter and nurtured anything that walked on four legs, had scales, or had feathers. We would like to express our appreciation to Michael's healthcare team for the compassionate care provided over the years.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a charitable donation to: The Cat People, PO Box 13610, Bakersfield, CA 93389 (661) 327-4706.A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11 AM at the Gilliam residence, 13409 Morocco Ave. in Bakersfield. We invite all Mike's family and friends to join in this special time. Pastor Joey Pittman from New Hope Temple in Taft, CA will be officiating.
