My sincerest condolences to the entire Horton family. As with Tim Ginn, I played baseball against Mike, first at JBA then through high school during the early 1960's. Like Mike, Tim & Mike Kirby, I served aboard USS Ticonderoga but never realized Mike was on board. Mike Horton will often be thought of as a great pitcher. Rest in Peace, Mike.

A Facebook album resurfaced today that made me think of Coach and prompted my search for his obituary. I remember hearing of his passing but back then the internet wasn't as accessible to me as it is now and I wanted to share my condolences with his family. I have great memories of my time on the golf team at Mariner and every time I golf I think of him. He lives on in legacy with every student and person he helped. Remarkable that Ulli below also left a comment today after so many years. He must be shining down on us. Best wishes to you all.

Mike was my baketballcoach the year I spent as an exchange student at East Bakersfield Hugh School. Jan and Mike took me in and treated me as a part of the family. I loved the whole family so much and I have been trying to find you Jan since we lost contact many years ago. I´m so sorry to read about Mike here. All my love to you and Kelly. It would be so nice to connect again.
Lots of Love, Ulli

Uncle Mike,
You taught me what it took to be a basketball & baseball player, and most important a decent productive human being. You aspired me to want to coninue playing college baseball after hearing your great experiences while playing from your days in Bakersfield through Idaho State! You encouraged me to finish college and earn a college degree, thanks to you I'm now into my 15th year as a PE teacher and baseball coach at both the collegiate and high school levels. Christmas in Bakersfield every year was the best memory a kid could ever have, all because of your love of family. Thank you for that! On a lighter side, the "pull my finger trick" was always amazing how you could do that on cue! You will always be in our hearts and celebrated each time the family gets together!
All my love, Bradey Thurman and the rest of the gang- Tracy, Chance, Kaitlyn and Christopher

May you find the right place in heaven, Mike, like you did here. I remember all the times we had while playing baseball at BC, the trips on the team bus, & the fun we had at practice. You're one in a million. RIP, my friend, RIP.

To the Horton family,
I remember Mike from playing against him throughout JBA & high school. He was a very talented ball player and had a great attitude. The last time I saw Mike was when we both played for the American Legion Post #26 baseball team in 1967 after I was released from the service. My sincerest condolences to the entire Horton family.
