Michael McAfee

09/01/1957 - 12/24/2014 Obituary
Mike was always a master of the element of surprise, so when he passed away suddenly at his home the night before Christmas eve, It was characteristic of his style.
A true California boy, Mike was born in Sacramento, and grew up in Davis, Fresno, San Jose and Woodland Hills. In 1975, he experienced winter for the first time whilst serving in the Navy in Norfolk, VA. Luckily, in the post-Vietnam era, much of his tour of duty was spent boosting bar economies in the more temperate Mediterranean. After returning home to Fresno, he met a beautiful young teacher named Jean who was powerless to resist his larger-than-life charm. The two permanently relocated to Bakersfield and were married in 1982.
His alliterative name and firm handshake gave him an instant likability from the moment he introduced himself. This, along with a brilliant wit and ironic sense of humor, made him a huge success throughout his life, both socially and professionally.A talented man of myriad hobbies, Mike amassed an impressive collection of guitars, guns, motorcycles, saddlery, woodworking tools, and slight-of-hand magic accoutrements over the years. He also enjoyed horses and generally tolerated their owners.
He is survived by his wife, and two sons: James and Andrew, (both of the godless liberal republic of Los Angeles) as well as his mother: Peggy, his sisters: Liz and Sara, and brother: Stuart.
