Mike went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2016. Mike was born to Paul and Louise Thompson on July 20, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents relocated to Bakersfield in 1948. Mike attended Pioneer Drive, East Bakersfield and Foothill High Schools, graduating in 1964. Mike was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1966. He served his country proudly in Vietnam, receiving the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle near Bong Son, RVN, 1967. After returning home Mike worked for the Santa Fe RR for several years before becoming disabled.
Mike loved the Dodgers, a good restaurant, fashionable clothes, and in his younger years, corvettes. He was a kind and generous person, giving much to his family and friends. He will be remembered for the stylish dress shirts and jazzy hats he often wore. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Edward Francis Thompson. He is survived by his sisters Margret (Larry) Fanucchi and Christine (Bob) Dietz; brothers Joe (Cathie), Ray (Betty Iris), and Jim Thompson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St.) on Monday, March 14, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
