MILDRED JEAN SIMONSON

1934 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
MILDRED JEAN SIMONSON Obituary
Mildred Jean Simonson of Bakersfield, CA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 3, 2016.
Mildred was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on January 2, 1934, the twelfth of thirteen children to parents Chloe and Barney Kastner. When Mildred was a young child, her family moved to California in order to join her father who was already working there. The family eventually settled in Shafter, CA where Mildred attended Shafter elementary and Shafter High school. It was there that she met a friend of her brother's named I.R. "Ike" Simonson whom she married in 1951. Mil' and Ike lived in Bakersfield raising their four children together. Their home was always a busy gathering spot for the neighborhood kids, family and friends. This was especially true after they installed a swimming pool in their backyard. Garage parties, game nights, birthdays, holidays, family vacation trips, sport and school activities made the Simonson household a constant hub of activity. Mildred took the opportunity to document all of these events by either photographing or videotaping EVERYTHING. Her legacy lives on in all the memories stored in the countless photos and videos she took.
Mildred and Ike enjoyed traveling together. Lake Tahoe was a favorite spot, as well as regular trips to Arroyo Grande to watch their grandsons play football. But a trip to Tahiti, New Zealand & Australia made her realize that Bakersfield, CA was good enough for her! After Mil' and Ike experienced their first trip to Hawaii together, they began an annual tradition of taking nine grandkids (all at once!) to experience the Aloha state. The grandkids still treasure the memories of the trips they shared with their grandparents which included Hawaii, Disney World, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, the beach and camping. Mildred also enjoyed shopping and that was an activity she particularly enjoyed with her four granddaughters.
In the early 90's Mil' and Ike built their dream house along the Kern River and shortly after that, the great-grandchildren started arriving. Their home, once again became the focal point of all family activities including: gatherings for birthdays and holidays, playing, exploring, driving the golf cart, riding bikes & roller skating on the long driveway, football, frisbee, building a treehouse, throwing rocks in the river and Easter egg hunting just to name a few.
Mildred is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Ike Simonson, her four children and spouses; Gene and Monica Simonson, John and Tracey Simonson, Debbie and Jeff Robinson, David and Cathy Simonson. 10 Grandchildren; Jessica (Todd) Crenshaw, Heather (Randy) Forehand, Sam (Marikah) Simonson, Gena Simonson (fiancee Leroy Brown), Jake (Melissa) Simonson, Jason (Mio) Simonson, Mitch (Shelly) Robinson, Chad (Kelly) Simonson, Chase Robinson and Tasha Simonson, 20 great-grandchildren, siblings; Ruth Manor, Bernice Davis, Clarence (Jane) Kastner as well as many nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her precious infant daughter Angelia Faith, and infant grandson Jared Eugene Simonson.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Eva who spent the most time providing  compassionate care for Mildred along with the help of Gloria. Thank you also to Ashley, Lauren, and Brenda who were there to make Mildred comfortable in her last year. We would also like to acknowledge our appreciation to Beverly Hunt for making those special house calls to cut and style her aunt's hair.
Mildred was one of a kind and proud of that. She will always be loved and never forgotten.......
