Myron Janzen

Obituary Condolences

Mike passed away peacefully on July 26, 2016. He was born in Hanna, North Dakota to Henry and Annie Janzen, and the family moved to Shafter 4 years later. Mike attended Shafter High School, where he was outstanding in football, basketball and track. That he was the student body president was only a hint of the outstanding man he was to become.

Mike's athleticism continued at Bakersfield College, where he was outstanding in track and football. His scholarship to UCSB was interrupted by WW II, and he spent 4 years in the Marine Corps, retiring as Captain in their reserves. After the war, he worked as a motorcycle patrolman with the Bakersfield Police and part-time in Babe's gym. When Babe retired, Mike took over the gym, helping uncounted aspiring athletes enhance their careers.

He "retired" from Babe's to a small ranch in Bear Valley, and spent his last few years in Kern City.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents and his 5 brothers: Elroy, Kermit, Darrell, Bud and Bob. He is survived by his wife, Billie, sister Gloria Knowles, sister-in-law Judy Janzen, daughter Sherri McGlasson, grandsons Michael (Maire) and Bryan (Anjannett); grandchildren Haley, Cameron, Abraham & Benjamin; stepsons Rick Perkins (Ida) and their 3 children, Ron Perkins (Tiffany) and their 2 sons; and stepdaughter Becky (Ted) Pedersen and their 4 children.

Burial will be at Shafter Memorial Park on August 4, and a Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 am on August 6 at Kern City Town Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hoffman Hospice.
