bakersfield.com/obits Nancy Sue Owens August 9 1938 - May 31 2013 Nancy was born in Antlers, Oklahoma on August 9 1938 to James and Dora Owens and went to be with the Lord on May 31 2013 at the age of 74. Nancy was a miracle child. Due to the lack of oxygen at birth, the doctor pronounced her dead. A midwife worked with her until she began to breathe again. From the lack of oxygen, Nancy developed Cerebral Palsy and the doctors only gave her a year to live. Beating the odds, the doctors then said she would never be able to walk, but she learned how by eight years of age. Some of Nancy's favorite things were babies, dancing and attending church. She loved the Lord with all her heart and went to the Pentecostal Church of God. Nancy lived with her mother Dora and stepfather James Copeland until her mom passed away in 2000. She then lived at Westchester Gardens Assisted Retirement Living and dearly loved all the employees who work there. Nancy always had a smile and never met a stranger. Nancy was preceded in death by mother Dora Copeland, father James Owens, stepfather James Copeland, and brother James R. Owens. She is survived by sister Paula Copeland (spouse George), brother John Copeland (spouse Anna), and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Friday June 7 2013 at 9:30 AM at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd, Bakersfield, Ca. 93305. Special thanks to Hoffman Hospice and to the Westchester Gardens employees for the wonderful care they gave to Nancy. She will be deeply missed.
